Some Problems Parents Have

Parents are people who have problems. What are some of the problems parents have?

I. Encouraging Their Children To Not Bow to Peer Pressure

Children are too often motivated in their behavior because of what people their same age are doing. If a certain conduct is popular, whether is is right or wrong, some young people are determined they will do what many around them are doing. It is often a battle to be effective in telling our children, "Do what God says to do, not what others want you to do." We must stress the importance and benefits of obeying God rather than man.

II. Having Patience When Our Children Do Not Seem To Listen

When we get impatient because our children are not listening, it would do us good to remember once we were young and were where they are. We made many unwise decisions and were at times rebellious and stubborn. Knowing that should not make us demand obedience less, but it should help us to understand they are human just like we are.

III. Doing All For Our Children We Would Love To Do

There are many things I would love to have bought for my children that I was not able to buy. But, there are things that are more important than money and possessions. All we can do for our children is what the Lord has enabled us to do. Actually, it is best not to spoil children and give them too much. It helps them to work for what they have. You cannot go beyond what the Lord makes available to you in helping to supply their need.

IV. Teaching Them To Set Priorities

Some things are lesser important than others. That is why we do our best to teach them that pleasure, popularity and possessions are not at the top of the list, but the will of God should be. The one that does the will of God abides forever.

V. Taking Time For Our Children

Many times parents are too busy for their children, so the television and video industry raises them instead of the parent. That is a dangerous scenario. We should take time for our children as our Heavenly Father does for each of us. God has all the many children he has around the world, and yet he has time for each of us as though we were the the only one.

Though the responsibilities of life are often difficult and trying, we have the promise of the help of God. In Isa 41:10 God says, "Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness." God can and will be your helper in parenting.
