Losing Important Things

Introduction:

We have all lost something at one time in our lives. One thing is sure, you cannot lose your salvation once you are truly born of God. Think with me about the following:

I. Don’t Lose Your First Love (Rev. 2:4). You can be in a state of declension when it comes to your love for the Lord. We would be wise not to let that happen. “First love” is a glowing, radiant and gleaming love. The Ephesian Chuch had decreased in its fervency. That brought discouragement and defeat.

II. Don’t Lose Your Rewards (I Cor. 3:15). All believers will be rewarded for service rendered with the right motives. You can lose reward in the sense that you may not gain what you could have if you had given your service with pure motives. We should all desire a “full reward” (2 John 8). People can misjudge the motives of others but God’s judgment is accurate.

III. Don’t Lose Your Power (Judg. 16:20). Though you cannot lose your salvation, you can lose your power with God. God will not fill an unclean vessel filled with the wrong things. Sampson woke up one morning and found that the power of God had left him. Nothing is worth losing the power of God over. We must have power to witness and work for the Lord.

IV. Don’t Lose Your Position (I Sam. 13:14). God told Saul, “But now thy kingdom shall not continue.” It is God who raises up and who can bring down. Humility and God dependence are two essential ingredients serving in positions of responsibility. Saul became haughty and independent of God.

V. Don’t Lose Your Influence (Gen. 19:14). Lot had so hung around the evil people of Sodom, that his own sons-in-law would pay no attention to him when he warned them to leave Sodom.

VI. Don’t Lose Your Soul (Mark 8:36). The Lord Jesus said, “What is a man profited if he gain the whole world and lose his own soul?” When the final opportunity to be saved comes, and you refuse Jesus Christ, then you lose your soul. To be lost forever means you will burn in Hell forever! Some choose possessions and pleasures over Jesus. If you don’t have Christ you have nothing, but if you have Jesus, you have everything.
