A Mother's Prayers
If anyone should be a prayer warrior, it should be a mother. No one can pray more intensely and earnestly than a mother can for her own child. Our text is found in 1 Sam. 1:27 where Hannah said, “For this child I prayed, and the Lord hath given me my petition which I have asked of Him.” There is no greater blessing than having a mother that can get prayers through to the throne room of God and receive answers to them. There are several things for which a godly mother should pray in regard to her children.
I. Requests That Are Not The Priorities:
A. A child's possessions are not a main priority. You could be a billionaire and not buy your way to happiness and heaven.
B. Your child's popularity is not a main priority. We all want our children to be well liked by their peers, but often we have to pay too great of a moral price to be popular.
C. Your child's pleasure is not a priority in prayer. We certainly do not want our children to partake in sinful pleasures, for they are only for a season (Heb. 11:25).
II. Requests That Are Main Priorities:
What should our prayers be in regard to our children?
A. Mothers, pray for the salvation of your children. If Hannah could ask God for a child, surely she had every right ask the Lord to save Him and put him into God's service. The last thing you want for your children is for one of them to go to hell.
B. Mothers, pray for the sanctification of your children. Sanctification is God's work in us to separate us from sin and makes us more like the Son of godly(Rom. 8:29).
C. Mothers, pray for the submission of your children. The Bible tells us to submit (James 4:7) under the mighty hand of God. It is only then we can resist the Devil. If they submit, they can resist the efforts of Satan to deceive.
D. Mothers, pray for the stability of your children. We should want them to be steadfast in the Word of the Lord. They do not have to serve sin if Christ is really present in them. 1 Pet. 5:9 speaks of being “steadfast” in the faith.
E. Mothers, pray for the safety of your children. God can be with them when we cannot always be there. God is omni-present (Psm. 138:7-8). Never take for granted the blessing of having a praying mother.
