Sing Me A Song About Jesus
Too many times we lose focus on what Christmas is all about. You can summarize Christmas in five letters… J–E–S–U–S. Not only is the Bible all about Jesus, but Christmas is all about Him. There is a divine Person and virgin birth we as Christians proclaim. To the believer, this season is more than a holiday, it is a holy day. We hear songs about sleigh bells, Santa Claus, a white Christmas, but it should be the songs about Christ that touch the springs of our hearts.
I. Sing Me a Song About His Birth
(Isa. 7:14; Matt. 1:23). The birth of Jesus was a special birth (born of a virgin). In addition, the birth of Christ was a suggestive birth. It suggests at least three things. First, that God cared about a lost mankind. It also suggests that God had the solution for man's sin. It also testifies to us that nothing is too hard for the Lord (Gen. 18:14).
II. Sing Me A Song About His Life
The life of Jesus was worth singing about because it was a sinless life (Lk. 23:4). No one can rightly and justly accuse Christ of sin. God does not sin. Though Jesus Christ took upon Himself humanity, He was still God — thus, He could not sin. We can rejoice also that the life of Jesus was a caring life. He demonstrated that when the disciples were out on the Sea of Galilee in a storm. He spoke and calmed the winds (Mk. 4:39).
III. Sing Me A Song About His Death
Christ descended from the glory world to become the sinner's substitute. For God to be just and justifier, sin had to be paid for in order for man to be set free from his sins. The death of Jesus was a substitutionary death (Heb. 2:9). It was “for” sinners. In addition, it was a saving death, because no one can be saved without the application of the blood of Christ (Heb. 9:22).
IV. Sing Me A Song About His Resurrection
If the death of Christ were final, then we would be without hope. But the opposite is true. Christ is alive today. He is risen (Mk. 16:6).
V. Sing Me A Song About His Coming Again
Never forget Jesus said He would come again and receive us (the church) unto Himself. During this season, we celebrate His first coming, but at the same time, we should keep in mind His second coming. Songs about a white Christmas, sleigh bells, and snowmen may be fine, but whatever you do, sing me a song about Jesus!
