Filled With The Christmas Spirit
Read Eph. 5:18. So many people are talking about having the Christmas spirit. I am not always sure what they mean but I think I know what most folks mean. They have in mind being jolly, generous, and festive. The real “Spirit” of Christmas is the Holy Spirit of God. If the Spirit of God is in full control of our lives, then we have the true “Christmas Spirit.”
I. His Sensitivity
We are told in Eph. 4:30 not to “grieve” the Holy Spirit of God. To grieve Him is to vex Him or offend Him. Certain things we do that are outside of the will of God for our lives offend the Spirit of God. For example, the wrong attitudes or the wrong action can grieve God's Spirit.
II. His Productivity
Gal. 5:22-23 would make an interesting study for you. Any child of God should want to be spiritually productive as we live in this world from day to day. It does not just happen! It is in proportion to our relationship and fellowship with the Spirit of God. When He is “filling” us or “controlling us” then our lives produce the love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, faith, goodness, meekness and temperance that they should. If you want spiritual success in your earthly endeavors, then fully and completely submit to His divine control over your life, moment by moment and day by day.
III. His Eternality
There is but one God but He reveals Himself in three distinct persons: Father, Son and Holy Ghost. When the earth was without form and void, and darkness was upon the face of the deep, it was the Spirit of God who “moved” or “brooded” over the face of the waters (Gen. 1:2). The Spirit of God, as well as the Son of God is co-eternal, co-equal, and co-existent with the Father.
IV. His Generosity
Read John 14:26. In the Scriptures He is revealed to us as the “Comforter.” As He helps us, He gives to the people of faith, all the grace, the peace and the comfort they need. God is not tight-fisted, but rather is generous and kind to His own people. No heart is bigger than the heart of God.
V. His Capability
In Acts 1:8, the Spirit of God came upon the waiting church, and made them able witnesses. You might not be all that great of a witness, but if the Holy Spirit's in charge, you will be.
