Because He Lives
Read Heb. 7:25. The Bible there says, “He ever liveth to make intercession for them.” What a glorious statement - “He ever liveth!” Because of Who Jesus is, the death of Christ could not be the end-the grave simply could not hold one with His power and authority! Let's think for a few moments about His resurrection. What does it tell us?
I. It Tells Us An Intercessor Is Available
Heb. 7:25. Here in this verse, the Bible tells us that He “ever liveth” to make intercession. The Greek N.T. word for “intercession” means to “plead with someone about someone else.” Who is it that Jesus is pleading with God about? Those who have come unto God by Him. That means you and I who are redeemed by His blood.
II. It Tells Us the Scriptures Are True
(1 Cor. 15:4). The Bible says He arose according to the Scriptures. If you compare Ps. 16:10 and Acts 2:27, you will discover that the O.T. clearly foretold of the resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ. I know the Bible is true because of the prophecies it makes in regard to Jesus coming forth from among the dead. Christ did what the Scriptures said He would do in overcoming death, so His resurrection was according to the Scriptures. Our Bibles are trustworthy and true!
III. It Tells Us There Is Hope For The Future
(Jn. 14:19). Because Jesus lives, we will live as well! The graveyard is not the end, it is only the beginning of a higher and fuller life for the child of God. When a seed that has the look of death about it, is placed in the ground where there is warmth, moisture and nutrition, it will sprout forth in its own time. Thank God, the bodies of our saved loved ones who have passed from this earthly life, lie in the confident expectation of a future resurrection of the human body (Phil. 3:21).
IV. It Tells Us About Christ's Power
(John 10:18). Jesus emphatically claimed to be able to lay His life down and then to be able to take His life up again. What power — to take a dead, lifeless body and cause it to walk and talk again! What a glowing testimony of the authority and power Christ had as the Son of God! He has the power to empty out graves and change bodies when the time is right!
