These Every Day
We live our lives one day at a time because we cannot live tomorrow. Today can affect tomorrow, but it is impossible to live tomorrow today, because tomorrow may never come.
I. We Can Have Our Daily Bread Every Day
Jesus said, “My Father giveth you the true bread from Heaven” (Jn. 6:32). Jesus said, “I am the Bread of Life” (Jn. 6:35). It is Christ who will sustain His people as we hunger for that which will satisfy. If you need spiritual bread, all you have to do is look to Jesus and you will find that which will meet your spiritual hunger.
II. We Have A Daily Cross
In Luke 9:23 Jesus said, “If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.” Your cross will be what you have to bear because you follow Jesus with your whole heart. Discipleship speaks of hard, painful duty. Being a true disciple of Jesus is no easy thing at all. It speaks of a denying of one's personal desires and becoming a learner and follower of Christ. Take up your cross every day because one day there will be a crown.
III. We Should Have A Daily Increase
Acts 16:5 says the churches in that day “increased in number daily” If we would witness as we should, the church of the Lord Jesus will grow. One of the main reasons a church does not multiply is because its members have spiritual lock jaw. The Bible tells us the redeemed of the Lord are to say so (Psalm 107:2).
IV. We Should Have A Daily Searching
At Berea they “searched the Scriptures daily” (Acts 17:11). There is a difference between skimming through the Bible and searching the Scriptures. “Search” means to read with diligence and eagerness with a readiness to obey. Most people fail to read their Bibles daily, but we should be diligent to search the Scriptures. There is nothing casual or flippant about this searching.
V. There Should Be A Daily Dying
1 Cor. 15:31 says, “I die daily.” Living for Jesus then was so dangerous that Paul felt exposed to death every day. The Bible also speaks about a dying to self and allowing the Holy Spirit to run our lives (Rom. 6:4). The crucified life is the victorious life.
VI. There Should Be A Daily Exhorting
Heb. 10:25 says, “exhorting one another.” Every day we should seek to build up someone else rather than tear someone down. One of the best ways to build others up is to show up at the church house to worship God.
