Activity at Midnight
Most of the time people are in bed asleep at midnight. It seems like many of the Devil's crowd are still busy at midnight and later. More sin takes place in the darkness than in the light. If you look in the Bible carefully, you will see there can be a great deal of good, spiritual activity at midnight. Let's consider some of those times the Bible mentions
I. Midnight Passover
Read Ex. 12:29. At midnight in Egypt, God smote all the firstborn with death in Egypt. The only way for the firstborn to be delivered was for the parents to put the blood over the top of the doorpost and on the sides of the door. That spoke of the application of the blood of Christ (Ex. 12:13). God said, “When I see the blood, I will pass over you.” God must see the blood applied!
II. Midnight Passing
See Job 34:20. For some reason many people pass away during the night hours. One thing is sure we have an appointment with death. The suspense of the matter is that we do not know when. The main thing is being prepared by being “born again” (Jn. 3:3).
III. Midnight Praising
Think about Psalm 119:62. The Psalmist arose to give God thanks and show gratitude for blessings received by the hands of God. Thanksgiving acknowledges He is at work in our lives. If you are up at midnight, do not waste your time, give God glory! Paul and Silas did that in the jail at Phillipi and a man was saved as a result.
IV. Midnight Proclamation
Consider Matt. 25:6. At the Jewish wedding, the bridesmaids knew the groom was coming to the house at the end of the betrothal period. They did not know when, but the moment he showed up they were awakened by the cry, “Behold the bridegroom cometh, come ye out to meet Him.” People living during the end of the Tribulation will have seen all the signs of His coming and will know that His appearing is imminent. They will not know the moment of His arrival until they see Him “coming on the clouds of the sky” (Matt 24:30).
V. Midnight Petitions
Meditate upon Luke 11:5. We see a person in need going to a friend for some bread. Jesus teaches in this story that you do not give up in prayer. Be persistent in asking God for what you believe He wants you to have. Asking, seeking and knocking does not show a lack of faith, but the evidence of faith. Spend your time in many midnight hours in prayer to your Heavenly Father.
VI. Midnight Preaching
Think on Acts 20:7. At Troas, Paul preached one night until past midnight. I have seen people receive life from God at midnight and I have seen people saved into the wee hours of the morning. The jailer at Phillipi was saved at midnight (Acts 16).
