Why Be A Christian?
The Bible says in Deut. 33:29, “Who is like unto thee, O people saved by the Lord?” We are a very special people with exceptional privileges. In modern terminology the Bible is saying to us, “Consider what you are-there is nothing like it!” When we live our lives as we should, it rivets the attention of a world that does not know our Lord When we live godly, they begin to see we are not like everyone else, we are the children of God. Why should we want to be a Christian?
I. The Christian Life is Happier Than Any Other Life
(Jn. 13:17). When we do what we know God wants us to do, we are a happy people. Those who obey the Lord out of a heart of love are happy individuals. The one happy in Jesus is the one who trusts and obeys. We should obey the Lord knowing the Word of God. We should obey in sharing the truth of God. Also, we obey the Lord overflowing with love for God. The Bible clearly says, “If we have hope in this life only, we are of all men most miserable.” Why have a barren life when your life can mean so much?
II. The Christian Life is Harder Than Any Other Life
(1 Pet. 3:14). Though we may suffer for doing what is right, you can rest assured that we will be blessed. When the going gets tough, the tough get going. God has not designed for us to sojourn to heaven on flowery beds of ease. The fact that the Christian life at times gets tough in this hostile word makes it a challenge to those who are spiritual. Trials will strengthen the Christian. You should suffer patiently and trustingly in the Lord.
III. The Christian Life is Holier Than Any Other Life
(1 Pet. 1:16). We are to be a “holy people.” Holiness is a by product of a close walk with God. God's holy people do not live by the standards of this world, but live on a higher plane because of personal faith. We should be holy in desire, in deed, and holy in direction of life.
IV. The Christian Life is More Hopeful Than Any Other Life
(1 Thess. 4:13). The lost do not have a confident expectation of good for the future and for eternity like the saints do. Hope keeps us pressing on in a world full of trouble and sorrow (Heb. 6:19).
